Hi Mike! Thank you so much for putting in the time, effort, and resources to creating this site that is especially creator friendly. When I woke up to this news this morning and was instantly excited! I like what I've seen so far and hope that this turns out to be something huge. With that, I will be uploading my existing liveries and start uploading my new ones here exclusively. Looking forward to what comes next here!
Also, I know file hosting isn't cheap. If there's anyway we can help support this site please let us know!
Wow! That's all way above my technical knowledge and skill but good for you man to be able to do that kind of stuff. And seriously, thank you for sharing that with us. Talking with some other livery creators that are looking at this and I think we're feeling pretty good about all of this. Some have even started uploading liveries already.
What's your plan, to become the new Avsim/Simviation? It seems almost eerie to not at least have banners Mike, considering we practically have to donate blood to share files at fs.to. Very impressive about your server though!
I have had this infrastructure in place since last year and it has been about a year now. The cost is fixed and it's something so far I have been just taking on myself and right now I don't see a need for any banners.
Also I can promise when something like that is integrated into the site it will be nothing aggressive like other sites and I would never lock downloads behind paywalls, require a wait or throttle connections. I use to run a very popular community site around Need for Speed with close to 20k addons and never throttled downloads or made users wait to download. That site lasted over 24 years before NFS finally lost interest.
Mike, we sent you an email.
Excited to hear back.
It's primarily in regards to Open Source and scraping. So we can get clarification before we support your platform.
Looking forward to a future discussion. Amazing server setup as well! We are most definitely jealous!
Here's a request on a related topic. I have a project on Github which I'd be keen to cross-post here, however I don't want to have to update version numbers, release notes, etc across three places: here, Github and fs.to (for the time being!). Is there any chance your site can slurp up my Github release notes and version number to keep them in sync?
That is definitely something I can look into implementing and I should be able to do that if we associate an addon with a github release page. You can also link to external download pages like a github release page when uploading an addon as well.
I will get back to you on this as I do really like that idea to keep things in sync and can make an automated process or have a simple button called "Sync from Github" that would pull in the version number and change log.
Mike,
Can we get a Glider Category. Thanks 🙂 https://hangaraddons.com/addons/discus-2c-standard-c33d80b9
