NC08 Tusquittee Landing Airport

In the southern Smoky Mountains, just north of Hayesville, North Carolina, lies the quiet and picturesque Tusquittee Valley. Consisting mostly of residential communities, the valley is surrounded by striking mountain peaks that roll down to Tusquittee Creek at its heart. One such location is Tusquittee Landing, a neighborhood with a private 2700 foot grass airstrip that runs parallel to the creek.

Surrounded by fertile pasture land to the east and west, the spacious runway faces 10 and 28 degrees. The fifty-foot wide runway offers a lengthy spot to touch down, with freshly-mowed grass and numerous taxis and aprons cut from the meadow, and is ideal for all manner of general aviation aircraft.

The term "Tuisquittee" is Native American Cherokee, meaning "Where the Water Dogs laughed." A Water Dog (or Mud Puppy) is a type of salamander. As the story goes, a Cherokee hunter was crossing the Tusquittee Valley during the dry season, when he saw to Water Dogs having a conversation. They were so thirsty that one said to the other, "Where's the water? I'm so thirsty that my apron (gills) hangs down," and both Water Dogs laughed. In fact, Tusquittee Valley is home to more species of salamander than any other region in the world: of the 550 known salamander species, 77 can be found in this area.

Custom Weather Presets

This addon contains two custom weather presets designed specifically for NC08. These presets are automatically available when this addon is placed in your Community folder.

• NC08 - Smoky Mountain Mist: This preset adds a low-level mist to Tusquittee Valley without obstructing much visibility. The mist is visible in all daylight hours, and adds character to early morning sunrise flights. Pilots quickly escape the mist, which extends the length of the valley well below the mountain slopes, with mostly clear skies in all directions.
• NC08 - Misty Mountain Hop: Apparent at all times, this weather preset adds a low, thick fog to the valley that extends almost to the top of the surrounding mountain ranges. In dawn and dusk lighting, the mountain sides are shrouded in the blue smoke-like haze that inspire the name of the Smoky Mountains. Climbing above the fog cover rewards pilots with a sea of mountain tops hopping out of the clouds, but keep an eye on mountains, trees and powerlines when descending!

How to Install

This download contains two versions of NC08 Tusquittee Landing: one for MSFS 2020 and one for MSFS 2024. Make sure to install the correct version for your simulator.

To install for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020:

• Make sure that the most up-to-date dependencies are correctly installed in your MSFS 2020 Community folder
• Download this scenery
• Open the downloaded zip file
• Open the 2020 folder
• Move the noticalmyles-airport-nc08-tusquittee subfolder directly to your MSFS 2020 Community folder

To install for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024:

• Make sure that the most up-to-date dependencies are correctly installed in your MSFS 2024 Community folder
• Download this scenery
• Open the downloaded zip file
• Open the 2024 folder
• Move the noticalmyles-airport-nc08-tusquittee subfolder directly to your MSFS 2024 Community folder

Troubleshooting

The scenery isn't showing up:

• Make sure you have the correct version of the addon for your sim.
• Make sure the noticalmyles-airport-nc08-tusquittee folder is placed directly in your simulator's Community folder.

People are visible, but cows are not showing up:

• You don't have the most recent version of Animated Human 3D Models Library installed. Download and install the latest package.

Scenery items are not showing up:

• Make sure the sceneries are correctly placed in your Community folder.
