RK Tactical Companion

Requirements

• Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024
• The RK Tactical Panel installed in your aircraft, downloadable here
• Windows 10 or 11, 64 bit
• An internet connection. It needs to reach rk.hangaraddons.com on TCP port 8787, or port 443 if you use the encrypted address below.

Running it on a different PC

If you want MSFS to have the whole PC to itself, run the Companion on a second PC on your network. The panel stays in MSFS and only the Companion moves.

1. On the PC running MSFS, copy SimConnect.xml.example from the download into the MSFS settings folder and rename it SimConnect.xml. For the Store or Xbox version of MSFS 2020 that folder is %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache, and for Steam it's %APPDATA%\Microsoft Flight Simulator. MSFS 2024 uses a similarly named folder.
2. Open the file and set Address to the IPv4 address of the MSFS PC. Allow the port (500 by default) through that PC's firewall, then restart MSFS.
3. On the other PC, set simconnect_host in companion.ini to the same address.

The warning sounds play on the PC running the Companion, so use its speakers or headphones. SimConnect isn't encrypted, so only do this on your own network or a VPN.

If something doesn't work

When you report a problem, please include whether you use MSFS 2020 or 2024, your aircraft, what you expected and what happened, and the last few lines from the Companion window.

Good to know

• This is an early release and it will keep improving. The remote PC option in particular is brand new.
• Pilots aren't authenticated and the room is public. Anyone who knows your pilot ID could join as you, so it's meant for casual flying.
• The default ws:// address isn't encrypted. Use the wss:// address if that matters to you.
• Positions on the Live Board are rounded to about a kilometre.
