This work is done under the common MIT License and Game Content Usage Rules. As such this is purely to be used in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and not for any other purpose.

The land data such as roads and railways was made with Natural Earth. Free vector and raster map data @ naturalearthdata.com.

Patch notes as of October 26, 2026

BUGS FIXED

• Land Data in Map Setup did nothing. Off now hides the map's land detail and water.
• The Airspace group in Map Setup was blank. It now shows the six airspace ranges.
• Saved Nearest Airport criteria were lost on load. They now apply.
• Minimum runway length on Nearest Airport now counts only runways of the chosen surface.
• Nearest Airport now shows CTAF frequencies. Stock only showed Tower, Unicom or Multicom.
• Heliports no longer show in airplanes. In helicopters they show when no minimum runway length is set.
• The cursor stayed on after leaving some pages (e.g. Nearest) and after closing Direct-To. It now turns off.
• Opening Trip Planning, then leaving AUX, threw an error and got stuck. Fixed.
• Declutter -2 and -3 now also remove Class E and other minor airspace. -3 now keeps prohibited and restricted airspace.
• Map Setup's User WPT range now applies, and declutter -2 and -3 hide user waypoints.
• Auto Zoom on the NAV 2 map was a setting that did nothing. It now works.

CHANGED BEHAVIOUR

• After Activate? on Direct-To, the unit returns to NAV 1 from any page.
• Loading in running or airborne starts on NAV 1. A cold start shows GPS status, then NAV 1 once there's a 3D fix.
• ENT skips start-up screens, one press per screen.
• GPS takes about 40-45 s to 3D NAV and 60-70 s to 3D DIFF NAV, as on the real unit. Stock was near instant.
• Holding CLR goes to the default NAV page from anywhere, closing any open window or entry first.
• FPL works from anywhere and shows the active flight plan. Pressing FPL again returns to the NAV page you came from.
• With an empty flight plan on the ground, FPL puts the airport you're at as the origin.
• D->, PROC and VNAV close any open page menu first. Leaving NAV 2 closes Map Setup.
• In AUX menus, both right knobs move the cursor.
• Nearest lists the 25 closest within 200 nm for airports, VORs, NDBs and user waypoints (stock: 50 within 150 nm). Intersections stay at 10 nm.
• Map, waypoint and procedure map ranges go from 500 ft to 2000 nm in 23 steps. Stock stopped at 200 nm and had no 1.5 nm step.
• Terrain page ranges are 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 nm. Stock used the map's list.
• The Traffic page shows STBY on the ground and OPER in the air, as with TIS. You can override it until the next takeoff or landing.
• Colours match GNS530 trainer: pure blue background, brighter cyan and yellow, cyan standby frequencies, and white satellite numbers, map labels and inactive flight plan legs.
• Everything the mod adds uses the GNS font at the unit's own sizes.

NEW: MAP

• Roads, railroads, state and province lines, rivers and city names on the NAV 1 and NAV 2 maps, from Natural Earth data. Each has its own range setting in Map Setup, with the trainer's defaults.
• Interstate and US route shields on roads.
• Active FPL range setting: the flight plan lines hide above it.
• Map Setup MENU: Restore Group Defaults? and Restore All Defaults?. Pushing the small knob closes Map Setup.
• Wind vector, on by default: wind speed and an arrow at the lower right of the NAV 1 and NAV 2 maps, airborne only.
• DTK up map orientation.
• NAV 1 auto zoom (Enable Auto Zoom? in the page menu): steps the range down from 200 nm to 5 nm as you approach the destination. Off by default.
• Measure Dist? on the NAV 2 map: a dashed line from the aircraft or a reference point to the pointer, with bearing and distance.
• Map pointer on the NAV 2 map:
  • Push the small right knob to turn it on or off. The knobs move it, and the map pans at the edges.
  • The bar at the top shows the waypoint under the pointer, its bearing and distance, and the pointer's lat/lon.
  • ENT shows waypoint info, or creates a user waypoint over open map.
  • D-> goes direct to the waypoint, or to a temporary +MAP point over open map.
  • CLR ends panning.

NEW: TERRAIN ALERTING

• The stock unit had no terrain alerts.
• Look-ahead warnings: TERRAIN AHEAD inside 30 s, TERRAIN ADVISORY from 30 to 60 s. Clearance depends on the phase of flight.
• TOO LOW - TERRAIN when descending below a safe path to the nearest airport.
• TER annunciator: TER TEST at start, TER N/A with no GPS, TER INHB when inhibited, yellow TERRAIN during an alert.
• TERRAIN ALERT window on any page. ENT goes to the Terrain page, CLR returns to your page.
• Red X on the Terrain page at the predicted impact point.
• Inhibit Terrain? now works, until the unit is powered off.
• Visual only, with no voice. No obstacle alerts, because the sim has no obstacle data.

NEW: USER WAYPOINTS

• Create, modify, rename and delete user waypoints. Stock could only display one.
• Set a position by lat/lon, by radial and distance from a waypoint, or by two crossing radials.
• User Waypoint List with used and empty counts, and Delete All.
• Typing an unknown ident in Direct-To offers to create a waypoint there.
• Closest Point of FPL > Load? creates a waypoint on the plan and inserts it.
• Drawn on the map as a cyan disc, and listed on Nearest > User.
• Up to 1,000, shared by both units and every aircraft.

NEW: FLIGHT PLANS

• Flight Plan Catalog on FPL page 2: up to 19 stored plans.
• Options: Activate, Invert & Activate, Copy, Delete, Delete All, and sort by number or comment.
• Copy Flight Plan? on the active plan saves it to the catalog.
• Saved per aircraft and unit. Procedures and airways aren't stored; airway legs come back as direct legs.
• Crossfill? on the NAV pages and the FPL menu, and an AUX Crossfill page.

NEW: NEAREST PAGES

• User: the 25 nearest within 200 nm. D-> works.
• ARTCC and Flight Service: the 5 nearest. ENT tunes the standby COM.
• Airspace: up to 9, with status and time to entry. ENT shows type, floor and ceiling.

NEW: AUX PAGES (greyed out in stock)

• Flight Timers: generic timer, departure time, total trip time.
• Trip Statistics: trip odometer, average and maximum groundspeed, odometer.
• Checklists: 9 lists of 30 items, ENT ticks an item. Create, copy, edit, sort and delete.
• RAIM Prediction for a waypoint, date and time.
• Sunrise/Sunset (430) for a waypoint and date.
• Software, Database and Terrain Database Versions pages.
• Scheduler: 9 timed reminder messages that appear through MSG.
• CDI / Alarms:
  • CDI scale limit.
  • ILS CDI capture, with a Manual option that stops the automatic GPS-to-LOC switch.
  • Arrival alarm.
  • Airspace alarms on the 530.
• Airspace Alarms (430): Class B, C and D, Restricted, MOA, and an altitude buffer.
• Data Field Configuration (530): the box under the VLOC window shows VOR/LOC data or one chosen field.
• Closest Point of FPL: bearing and distance from a waypoint to the nearest point on the active plan.

NEW: OTHER

• FLOW data field: total fuel flow for all engines.
• Emergency channel: holding the COM flip-flop about 2 s tunes 121.500. Only works if the aircraft's cockpit sends a long-press for that button.
• Text entry: the first small-knob turn starts editing, the large knob moves the cursor, ENT accepts, CLR cancels.
• PC keyboard entry for user waypoint names and references.

NOW SAVED BETWEEN FLIGHTS (per aircraft and unit)

• All Map Setup settings and the declutter level.
• Map ranges.
• COM and NAV frequencies, active and standby.
• CDI source (GPS or VLOC).
• Units, position format, date/time format and the VNAV page settings. Stock didn't save these.
• NAV 2 data fields on or off.

KNOWN ISSUES

• The Scheduler fires twice in aircraft with two GNS units.
• Checklists, Scheduler messages, timer criteria and the odometer are shared between the 530 and 430.
• Trip Statistics reset when the sim restarts.
• Still greyed out: Parallel Track, MSA/ESA data fields, editing a stored flight plan, and Create New Flight Plan?.
• The basemap is coarse: major roads only, and no names on rivers or state lines.
• The CDI limit is set on one unit, and the other unit follows it.
